Azerbaijani President inspects new Baku cabs (PHOTO)
Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev has today inspected new cabs delivered to Baku as part of a state program aimed at improving the taxi service in the capital, the President's official website reported.
Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov told the President that 100 taxis were shipped to Baku under a deal with Manganese Bronze Holdings PLC, the maker of London`s traditional cabs. The deal will see a total of 1,000 TX4 London cabs supplied to the Baku Taxi Company. Another shipment of 900 cabs would be brought to the country until the end of the year.
The TX4 features a new front radiator grille, an updated interior design, updated front and rear bumpers. It also has internal headrests as a result of EU safety regulations. The TX4 offers a 2.5 VM Motori diesel engine with a manual transmission.
The cab drivers passed a medical and psychological test. They also passed a special test to demonstrate that they have an intimate knowledge of the geography of Baku streets.
President Aliyev tested a cab.
The Head of State gave instructions to transport authorities to speed up efforts towards modernizing the taxi fleet of Baku and other cities of the country.
