A techno-park will be established in the Bikrova village near Ashgabat for innovative scientific research in important fields, according to an official statement of the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development of Turkmenistan.

The techno-park will offer facilities for research on the active use of alternative energy sources (sun, wind) and the assimilation of nanotechnologies.

"Creating techno-parks intends to resolve major tasks related to production, applying modern technologies, increasing labor capacity at industry, and consequently, producing high-tech and competitive products," the statement said.

Turkish company Polimex submitted a design of the techno-park to the government last year. The project proposal includes a technological store and a museum.

The techno-park is designed to enhance innovation and is partially reminiscent of the type of academician town that existed in the USSR. The first techno-park was established in the United States. In the USSR, the first techno-park was established in Tomsk in 1988.
