Economic Development Ministry of Azerbaijan has prepared proposals for changes to the law on public procurements in order to further strengthen the position of locally made products, Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev said at a meeting with buyers and producers of competitive industrial products, held in Sumgayit industrial park on Saturday.
"Currently, the legislation in this sphere promotes the use of products of local manufacturers, however, we have prepared draft amendments to the law in order to strengthen support for domestic manufacturers," Mustafayev said.
According to the minister, after coordination of proposals with other government agencies, the draft amendments to the law will be submitted to parliament.
Conducted by the Ministry, the research showed that about 98 percent of the winners of tenders are local companies. However, most of them purchases products from other countries, said Mustafayev.
"This happens for two reasons - either these companies are not aware of the country's products, or have no information about their competitiveness," said the minister.
