About 70 percent of canned fruits and vegetables produced in Azerbaijan are sent for export, Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismet Abasov said in an interview to official press on Wednesday.
"Azerbaijan fully meets its needs for canned fruits and vegetables, and exports 70 percent of this product to the CIS countries and Europe," Abasov said.
He said 80 enterprises are engaged in fruit and vegetable processing in Azerbaijan.
"Their capacity allows producing about 750 million standard cans a year," Abasov said.
He said that production of potatoes, vegetables, melons, fruits and berries exceed demand for these products in 1.5-1.7 times.
"This year we have increased opportunities to export these products," Abasov said.
