President of ECO Bank appointed from Iran

Former First Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Hossein Ghazavi has been appointed as the President of the ECO Bank, the ECO Bank announced.

Ghazavi was nominated to this position by the Governors of the three founding countries - Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.

Following the appointment, Ghazavi took office at the Headquarter of the Bank in Istanbul, on November 1, 2011.

Ghazavi was the Vice Governor of Economic Affairs at the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and was lecturing courses on economic and banking issues in various universities of Tehran.

Before Ghazavi was holding different top positions in various Iranian financial institutes

He was awarded by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran with a Plaque of Appreciation for a Paper on Economic Implications of Money Laundering (2004) and with a Multiple Plaques of Appreciation by Ministers (2002-2006).

The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is an intergovernmental organization involving seven Asian and three Eurasian nations, part of the South-Central Asian Union. It was set up to provide a platform to discuss ways to improve development and promote trade, and investment opportunities. The general goal of the body is to establish a single market for goods and services, much like the European Union.

ECO's secretariat and cultural department are located in Tehran, its economic bureau is in Turkey and its scientific bureau is based in Pakistan.
