Kazakhstan spends 0.16 percent of its GDP on research and development, the Kazakh Information and Communications Ministry said on Monday.

Kazakhstan spends 0.16 percent of its GDP on research and development, the Kazakh Information and Communications Ministry said on Monday.

"The share of costs on research and development work is 0.16 percent of the GDP in Kazakhstan, while the figure is 3.8 percent in such countries as Sweden, Japan, the U.S., Germany, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus," the statement said.

According to the information, the rate to finance science will be increased to one percent of the GDP by 2014.

"The number of scientific institutions increased by 157 units or 61.1 percent over 20 years of independence," the statement said.
