Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered the government to develop a program of the Road Map Business and Science - 2020.

Under the program, Kazakh companies are intended to transfer 1 percent of their revenues on research works, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.

"I have ordered the Government and the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna to develop a road map by February 1, 2012, which will specify the business community's participation in scientific researches. Each company should transfer 1 percent of their profit on scientific researches," Nazarbayev said at the Forum of Kazakhstan scientists in Almaty on Thursday.

According to Nazarbayev, the transfers will raise the science and the prestige of scientific workers.
"Science funding should be increased to 1 percent of GDP or to roughly $2.5 billion in 2014," Nazarbayev said.
According to Nazarbayev, the government will allocate 42 billion tenge on research and development in 2012. Some 118 billion tenge will be allocated to this sphere in the next three years.
