Azerbaijani non-oil industry ups by almost 10 percent

In January-October 2011, Azerbaijan's gross industrial output amounted to 31.2 billion manat, a decrease of 5 percent compared to the similar period of 2010, the State Statistics Committee told Trend on Thursday.

Private-sector industrial output decreased by 9.3 percent compared to last year amount to 81.7 percent of total output. Of gross output, 92.7 percent and 7.3 percent account for industrial goods and industrial services, respectively. Production of non-oil industry's products reached to 9.7 percent.

During the reporting period, the extractive industry's output decreased by 8.2 percent to 24.3 billion manat or 78 percent of gross industrial output. Oil production hit 42.2 million tons while natural gas production was 23.8 billion cubic meters.

The manufacturing industry's output amounted to 5.3 billion manat, increasing by 7 percent. A significant growth was observed in production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers (8.5 percent), manufacture of rubber and plastic products (34.6 percent), metallurgical industry (92.2 percent), chemicals (30.3 percent), furniture (16 percent), as well as clothing (57.2 percent).

A significant increase of 6.3 percent was observed in food production. The production of sausages increased by 12 percent up to 1,800 tons, cheese and sour milk- by 2.2 percent up to 40,500 tons, meat-by 4.6 percent up to 236,000 tons, milk-by 5.1 percent up to 646,700 tons, butter-by 0.8 percent up to 19,300 tons, and sugar-by 9.3 percent up to 303,700 tons.

The official exchange rate is 0.7863 manat to $1 on Dec.15.
