The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry will participate in a meeting of an expert group on an international transport corridor project in New Delhi on May 28-30, the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry said on Monday.

According to the information, the activity undertaken as part of a transport corridor, and further plans for its development will be discussed during the meeting.

Along with the Transport Ministry, the specialists of "Azerbaijan Railways" and the State Customs Committee will attend the meeting.

Qazvin-Rasht-Astara (Iran)-Astara (Azerbaijan) railway is part of the transport corridor North-South, which aims to link the railway systems of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran.

The investments in the construction hit $ 400 million. It is envisaged that they can be carried out by the banks in the countries participating in the project, as well as other regional financial institutions.

According to a preliminary calculation, the volume of cargo transportation via railway is projected at six million tons per year with a subsequent increase to 20 million tons per year.
