Import of gold into Turkey in the first six months of 2012 doubled compared to the same period of 2011 and amounted to 60 tons, Istanbul Gold Exchange said in its report on Friday.
Gold import increased by 20 percent in June compared to the same month of 2011 and amounted to 14 tons.
Average price for gold import in June amounted to 94,000 lira per kilogram compared to 78,900 lira per kilogram in June last year.
Over the past 17 years, Turkey imported 2,631 tons of gold.
Import of silver in Turkey grew by 27 percent in the first half of 2012 compared to the same period of 2011 and amounted to 79.4 tons.
The official exchange rate is 1,8008 TRY / USD on July 6.
