The volume of container traffic at the port of Poti has increased by 38 percent for over the past two years, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Vera Kobalia told reporters on Saturday.
She met with the staff of the port, employed after the transfer of port into the possession of APM Terminals in April last year.
The Minister said at present more than a thousand people work at the port, 80 percent of whom are employed in the customs terminal.
During the visit, Vera Kobalia examined the economic zone of registration and got acquainted with the future plans of the company.
The principle of "one window" is used in Poti terminal. For example, it is possible to implement customs clearance of vehicle in just 15 minutes.
The indicator of the container traffic can reach 300,000 tons by the end of the year.
