CIS member states outline cooperation plan for crisis situations in Ashgabat

An action plan for the implementation of the protocol on the approval of the declaration on the organization of border and other CIS agencies’ interaction for assistance in crisis situations settlement (liquidation) at the external borders as of October 5, 2007 was approved at the meeting of the CIS Heads of State, held in Ashgabat, the CIS Executive Committee said on Thursday.

An action plan for the implementation of the protocol on the approval of the declaration on the organization of border and other CIS agencies' interaction for assistance in crisis situations settlement (liquidation) at the external borders as of October 5, 2007 was approved at the meeting of the CIS Heads of State, held in Ashgabat, the CIS Executive Committee said on Thursday.

The plan envisages measures to improve the regulatory legal framework, the implementation of a quarterly analysis of the situation at the external borders of the CIS member states, forecasting risk and threats to border security, development of cooperation plans for border and other agencies, cooperative learning, and so on.

According to the CIS Executive Committee, the Ashgabat summit also approved the future development directions of the united air defense system of the Commonwealth. The CIS heads of state ratified the document defining preparation procedures for celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The information stated that a number of agreements signed at the summit regarded the creation of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units, cooperation in training of anti-terrorist unit specialists, the educational institutions of competent agencies, cooperation of competent authorities involved in combating terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism, in logistics field.

Independent experts say that the main concerns of the CIS states are associated with the long lasting unstable situation on the territory of Afghanistan.
