Reconstruction of large stretch of railway to be completed in Azerbaijan in 2014

The reconstruction and modernization of the Baku-Boyuk Kesik railway line is planned to be completed by the end of 2014, the deputy head of Azerbaijan Railways JSC Gurban Nazirov said on Friday.

The reconstruction and modernization of the Baku-Boyuk Kesik railway line is planned to be completed by the end of 2014, the deputy head of Azerbaijan Railways JSC Gurban Nazirov said on Friday.

According to him, a modernization of 160 km is planned to be completed by the end of year out of a total of 317 kilometers slated for reconstruction.

"The train speed on the renovated section increased to 140 kilometers per hour," Nazirov said.

The capital repair of 317 km of Baku-Boyuk Kesik is carried out through a loan of $ 215 million allocated by the Czech Exim Bank.

Work started on June 10, 2011 on a 97 kilometer section of Agstafa Tatli.

Specialized railway agencies N4 and N11 'Demiryolservis' CJSC and 'Azerbaijan Railways' and corresponding structures in the infrastructure department are involved in the reconstruction work.

According to Nazirov, implementation of certain work on the Baku-Astara railway line is planned, in particular, a transfer to the 60 kilometer long safe transport area from Gasimli Station to Astara station. This sections accounts for the North-South transport corridor. Work at the site is scheduled to be launched soon.
