Turkey and Russia have launched the Samsun-Caucasus joint rail-ferry line, Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim was quoted as saying today by the Anadolu Agency.

The minister said that the south of Russia and north of Turkey will be connected by a new corridor via the shortest route. Junctions connecting the corridor to the Russian interior will be built in Russia itself. The northern and southern corridors in Turkey will also be combined, which will ensure combined, fully integrated transport activity.

The project began in 2005. The first test trips were made on December 22, 2010. Around 62 trips have been made. A total of 2,300 stocks with 63,000 tons of cargo were transported.
