The Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan ratified the Convention on avoidance of double taxation with the Swiss Confederation with respect to taxes on income and capital, Turkmen government said on Thursday.

The document was signed in October 2012 in Bern after negotiations at the highest level. Presidents of Turkmenistan and Switzerland - Gurbanguly Berdymuhammadov and Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf signed the Convention.

Turkmenistan is interested in cooperation with Switzerland in areas such as mechanical engineering, chemical, textile, electrical and electronics, as well as pharmaceutical industry.

In Bern the parties also agreed to further enhance joint activities in the multilateral format, in particular, within the UN and other authoritative international organizations, as well as continuing the practice of regular consultations between foreign ministries of the two countries.
