Almalyk plant in Uzbekistan announces tender to purchase equipment

The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC) of Uzbekistan announces an international tender to purchase main technological equipment for the project ‘Construction of an underground mine at the Samarchukat site’ on the basis of the Kyzyl Olma field, a representative of the plant told Trend on Wednesday.

The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC) of Uzbekistan announces an international tender to purchase main technological equipment for the project 'Construction of an underground mine at the Samarchuk site on the basis of the Kyzyl Olma field, a representative of the plant told Trend on Wednesday.

According to the report, in total, within the competitive bidding the plant plans to purchase equipment (compressors, shaft loading and lifting machines, ventilators, electrical and other mine equipment) worth $27.6 million.

Under the terms of the tender, applicants may submit tender bids for one or more lots. In this case, whole list of equipment should be covered on the selected lots.

The maximum term of the supply of equipment on all lots is June 2015. Delivery times on separate lots will be set when concluding contracts.

Tender bids are accepted until April 30. The bidding results are planned to be summed up by the end of the first half of this year.

In early March of this year, the government of Uzbekistan approved a feasibility study for the construction of an underground mine at the Kayragach field in the Tashkent region worth $30.56 million.

Implementation of the project will provide additional mining and processing of gold ore to the sum of 80,000 tons. The mine will be put into operation in November 2014.
The project will be financed through AMMC's own funds of $10.59 million, FRDU credit - $6.72 million and a loan from the Uzbek Ipotekabank to the sum of $13.25 million.

Almalyk MMC is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan and one of the largest manufacturers of non-ferrous metals in Central Asia. The AMMC accounts for nearly 90 per cent of silver production and 20 per cent of gold production in the country. The plant is composed of two mining companies, two processing plants and two metallurgical plants.

The plant has the right to develop copper-molybdenum and lead-zinc ores in the area of Almalyk (Tashkent region). The AMMC's resource base includes copper-porphyry ores Kalmakyr and Sary Cheku (Tashkent region) and the deposit of lead-zinc-barite ore Uch-Kulach (Djizzak).

The total volume of production is estimated at more than $300 million annually.
