The Azerbaijani government has instructed relevant bodies to strengthen control over the construction and exploitation of buildings in landslide zones, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov told journalists on Friday.
He added that unfortunately, today this issue has been neglected in the country.
"One of the causes of landslides is the water that seeps into the soil from houses and restaurants," he said. For example, there were no sewage systems in the houses built on the hills in the settlement of Badamdar and wells were used. As a result, the soil began to sink."
He stressed that specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and construction companies are operating to examine the causes and eliminate the consequences.
