Kazakhstan is going to spend at least one per cent of its GDP annually on a transition to a 'green' economy, the Minister of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Kapparov said at the conference 'Creating a green economy in Kazakhstan', on Friday,.

"It's hard to say how much money the transition to a 'green' economy will require but can tell you how it's done elsewhere. For example, China has pledged an investment in the 'green' economy of 1.5 per cent of its GDP.

"Korea, when adopting this programme pledged to invest two per cent of its GDP in this field. Our strategy will show how aggressively we will move on in Kazakhstan. There are a lot of models that compare, but I think we have to invest at least one per cent," Kapparov said.

According to him, Kazakhstan is financially, mentally and most importantly, programmatically ready to introduce a 'green economy'.

"After the adoption of the respective strategy we will begin this transition, so people should understand that this will not happen suddenly. This will be a long programme designed for 20-30 years," the minister said.
