Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 April / Trend, A. Akhundov /

As a result of the laying the Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline, the proportion of the population with access to a reliable water supply in the area has increased from 40 to 70 percent.

This was stated on Friday by the Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov during a speech at the Caspian International Aqua Technologies Exhibition and Forum in Baku.

The water pipeline, with a total value of $993 million and a length of 262 kilometers was launched in 2010.

"The Commissioning of the Takhtakorpu reservoir and the Takhtakorpu-Jeyranbatan canal by the end of 2013 will create additional water storage at a rate of 18 cubic meters per second. This will ensure the supply of water to Baku and Sumgait and the Absheron peninsula from the Jeyranbatan reservoir. The cost of the project is $1.4 million," Sharifov said.
