Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has completed 80 percent of work on its state railroad development project, the deputy head of the company Gurban Nazirov said on Thursday.

According to him, 240 kilometers of the Baku-Boyuk Kesik railway have been already repaired; works on updating the energy management, communication systems and signaling system are being carried out as well.

"The projects are being implemented with credit from the World Bank and the Czech Export Bank. Fifty percent of the credit has been already spent for the realization of the projects," Nazirov said.

As a result of work on the Baku-Boyuk Kesik line, the speed of trains increased to 140 kilometers per hour from the current 80 kilometers per hour. This in turn helps to reduce by half the time of passage of this area - up to five or six hours, whereas now this way can be passed for 10-12 hours.

Also, according to Nazirov, the Azerbaijan Railways is planning to buy 25 passenger wagons, as well as send 80 passenger cars to Russia and Ukraine for capital repairs.
