Iranian researchers have achieved 99 percent pure gallium producing technology, Deputy Head of the Tarbiat Modarres University for Research Department, Mohammad Javad Esmaili said, ISNA news agency reported.

"Gallium is a metal accumulated in alumina plant flow and it negatively affects the process of production in the plant, he said.

Iranian researchers have extracted the gallium from circulating a solution of the Jajram alumina plant, he said.

For the time being, a pilot unit has been created which has the capacity to produce 10 grams of gallium daily, he added.

Esmaili underlined the strategic importance of this expensive metal, adding that gallium is used for producing semi-conductors in the electronic, telecommunications and nuclear industries.

According to the report, gallium also can be used in the arms industry.
