Tender announced in Azerbaijan within WB project to support water users

The Irrigation and Water Management of Azerbaijan JSC has announced an open tender for the rehabilitation of irrigation canals in the Gakh region as part of the World Bank's (WB) 'Water Users Associations Development Support Project' (WUAP), a statement published in the official press on Wednesday says.

The contract provides for cleaning canals from silt, restoration of concrete pavement of existing channels and restoration of damaged water conservancy facilities in irrigation canals or construction of new facilities.

Tender proposals and bank guarantees are accepted until 15:00 on September 6, 2013 at the following address: Baku, 40 U.Hajibeyov, the Government House, fifth floor, room 514. Offers must be valid for 90 days from the date of opening and accompanied by a bank guarantee.

Proposals may not be submitted in electronic form.

The Government of Azerbaijan and the World Bank signed a loan agreement to provide $80 million for WUAP in October 2011. Of the total amount of the loan, 76.8 million is provided by the International Development Association (IDA) and $3.2 million by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The government's share in the project amounts to $34.3 million. The total project cost is $114.3 million.

The project funded by the World Bank is expected to contribute to the rehabilitation of irrigation and drainage networks and the formation of potential to increase the productivity of 760,000 small farms located in 27 regions of Azerbaijan.

The official exchange rate on August 7 is 0.7844 AZN / USD.
