French concern Renault is interested in Kazakh car manufacturer Asia Auto - Kazakhstan as a possible site for production and plans to evaluate its capacity in the near future, RIA Novosti news agency reported with reference to Renault head in Russia Bruno Ancel.
"We do not plan to work with Asia-Auto currently, but are studying this issue. Renault's delegation will visit the Asia-Auto plant in near future. We have never said we will launch production there, but will not say that it is impossible. There are some advantages in production in Kazakhstan for the needs of the Kazakh market. This market is growing rapidly and it can be of interest," Ansel said.
Ansel said that in the case of launching production in Kazakhstan, the company would produce only passenger cars.
"In Kazakhstan only a small project can be successful," Ansel said.
Car plant Asia Auto located in the Kazakh city of Ust-Kamenogorsk was founded in 2002 and is the largest car producer in Kazakhstan. The factory's partners include such world leading corporations as Volkswagen Group, General Motors, Renault-Nissan-AvtoVAZ and KIA Motors. In 2012 Asia Auto produced 14,008 passenger cars.
