Considerable success was achieved in strengthening food security from 2003 to 2012, thanks to the attention and support of the Azerbaijani President, the Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov's article, devoted to the dynamics of development of country's agricultural sector in the last 10 years, published on Monday in the official press said.

According to the minister, the State Program for a Secure Food Supply for 2008-2015 plays a crucial role in this regard.

"As a result of its successful implementation, impressive results were achieved in increasing production volumes. Between 2003 and 2012, grain production per capita has increased from 246 to 292 kilograms, potatoes - from 94 to 104 kg, vegetables - from 128 to 130 kg, watermelons - from 44 to 46 kg, sugar beet (industrial production) - from 16 to 19 kg, fruits and berries - from 70 to 87 kg, meat - from 23 to 30.5 kg, milk - from 143 to 183, 8 kg, eggs - from 83 to 131.1 units," the article said.

According to Abbasov, the high increase was observed in food production per capita.

"In the period from 2003 to 2012, the consumption of meat and meat products increased from 29 to 33.5 kg, milk and dairy products - from 271.1 to 294.4 kg , eggs - from 123 to 317 units , fruits and berries - from 61 to 74.6 kg, vegetable oils - from 8.3 to 9.9 kg, sugar and confectionery products - from 30.7 to 31.7 kilograms," Ismet Abbasov's article said.
