Council to coordinate local self-government action created in Uzbekistan

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has adopted a resolution on the establishment of the republican council for coordination of the activity of citizens' self-government authorities.

According to the decree posted on electronic media outlets, the new structure will define the general course of the development of citizens' self-government to promote an improvement and assist in enabling them to exercise their powers and solve problems.

The council's functions will also include popularisation of the best experiences of citizen assemblies, organisation efforts to improve the skills of workers of citizens' self-government authorities and the formation of their modern management qualities.

The council will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Adham Ikramov, who supervises the social sphere, science, culture and education.

The council includes representatives of the ministries and agencies, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health Interior Ministry, Kamolot Public Youth Movement, Mahalla Public Welfare Fund (in the Uzbek language the historical definition, an analogue of the word 'district').

The functions of the council's working body will be carried out by the republican government of the Mahalla Public Welfare Fund.
