Azerbaijan increases agricultural production by almost five percent

Agricultural output at current prices amounted to 4.724.2 billion manat in Azerbaijan from January – October or by 4.7 percent more compared to the same period of 2012.

Agricultural output at current prices amounted to 4.724.2 billion manat in Azerbaijan from January - October or by 4.7 percent more compared to the same period of 2012, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee as of nine months said on Tuesday.

"The growth of crop production was 3.8 percent, livestock production - 5.6 percent," the report said.

As of November 1, around 2.752.6 million tons of crop were collected from 1,034.7 million hectares of cereals (excluding corn) which is 5.1 percent more than in the same period of last year (for comparison, around 2,619 tons of grain crop in January-October 2012).

As of November 1, harvesting was completed in the country.

Around 992,200 tons of potatoes, 1.191.1 million tons of vegetables and 429,700 tons of melons were gathered. The production of potatoes increased by 2.5 percent, vegetables - by 0.1 percent, melons - by 0.5 percent compared to the same period of last year.

Thus, 3,300 tons of tobacco leaf (dry weight) and 18,100 tons of sunflower were collected during the reporting period. The processing enterprises sold 31,500 tons of raw cotton.

The farms produced 691,200 tons of fruits and berries (by 26,100 tons more than in the same period of 2012), 142,800 tons of grapes (by 18,100 tons more per year) and 549.9 tons of tea leaf.

The country produced 402,700 tons of meat (live weight), 1.528.9 million tons of milk, 1.160.2 million eggs, 16,500 tons of wool during the reporting period.

Meat production increased by four percent, milk - by 6.4 percent, eggs - by 16.3 percent, wool - 2.3 percent in January-October this year compared to the same period of 2012.
