Some 30% of Azerbaijani Central Bank’s foreign reserves kept in securities

Some $4.09 billion or 28.66 percent of the total amount of reserve assets of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) were placed in securities in January-February 2014, according to the CBA statistics report.

For comparison, some $4.19 billion of the total amount of the CBA foreign exchange reserves for the same period of 2013 were placed in securities.

Some $ 9.93 billion are on the accounts of other central banks, the Bank for International Settlements and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Their volume increased by 41.45 percent compared to the same period of 2013, while the share in the total volume of assets held by the Central Bank amounted to 69.59 percent, according to the report.

The total amount of the CBA reserve assets in foreign currency as of January- February 2014 amounted to $14.27 billion or by 21.24 percent more compared to the same period of 2013. The CBA reserves stored in foreign currency amounted to $14.03 billion as of late February or by 21.68 percent more compared to the same period of 2013 ($ 11.53 billion).
