More than 4000 trillion rials (about $155 billion) worth of development projects are underway in Iran, the country's parliament speaker Ali Larijani said.

However, only about $8-11 billion of funds can be allocated for them, Iran's Fars news agency reported on April 25.

"The projects will take several years to complete. So, even if the projects are finished, they will be outdated,' he explained.

He went on to add that Iran should use legal means to transfer these projects to private sector for further handling.

It should be noted that some 20,474 construction projects for Iran's forth Five-Year Development Plan (2005-2010) including some 4296 national ones were not completed during ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad`s presidency (2005-2013) and were left to complete in the fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015).

A 2013 report of Iranian parliamentary research center said that the government at that time managed to complete just 10 percent of the projected national and provincial projects. 610 projects were supposed to come on stream in the previous year, but only 59 projects were completed

In December of 2013, ISNA quoted Iranian parliament's vice speaker Mohammadreza Bahonar as saying that some 1,200 trillion rials (about $48 billion) worth of road and transport projects are semi-finished in Iran.

Yet the current year's budget bill has allocated 380 trillion rials (about $15.3 billion) to development projects, he added.
