Baku, Azerbaijan, June 2
By Emin Aliyev - Trend:

The establishment of ferry service between Azerbaijan and Russia is necessary, according to Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev.

"Azerbaijan has ferry service with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, and the absence of such transport infrastructure with Russia seems strange," he said, noting that the opening of ferry line between the two countries will substantially reduce the cargo transportation costs.

"This will impact positively on the dynamics of bilateral cooperation," Ulyukayev added.

As head of the Azerbaijani State Maritime Administration Gudrat Gurbanov said earlier, 'Ro-ro' vessels were to start operating between the international ports of Baku and Astrakhan from April 2014 for the transportation of vehicles.

It was planned to implement transportation through the 'Bestekar Gara Garayev' (Azerbaijan) and 'Composer Rachmaninoff' (Russia) vessels. The 'Bestekar Gara Garayev' vessel can carry 60 KAMAZ cars or 40 heavy trucks with trailers.
