The Kazakh president visited the seaport of Aktau as part of a working trip to Mangistau region, the official website of Kazakh president said.

The president was informed about the project implementation.

The statement said the port's capacity is planned to be increased, according to the project.

"The annual volume of cargo transportation will increase to 19.5 million metric tons per year through the construction of a grain terminal with a capacity of 1.5 million metric tons per year, as well as the two terminals for general cargo and containers with a capacity of 1.5 million metric tons per year. The first phase of construction is planned to be completed in December 2014," said the statement.

The president was also informed about the development of port infrastructure of the Caspian Sea, the Trans-Caspian route and a transportation hub of the Mangistau region.

Moreover, President Nazarbayev talked to the workers, and said that the country pays special attention to the development of the port," he said. "Its significance as the sea gate of Kazakhstan will only increase."

"Many issues, including the conservation of marine ecology, sustainable use of its bio-resources, ensuring security were resolved at the recent Caspian Summit in Astrakhan," the president said. "All this is aimed at strengthening cooperation. It creates incentives for further development of the entire Caspian region."
