Uzbek banks’ total assets increase by over 11% since early 2014

The total assets of Uzbek commercial banks increased by 11.4 percent to 48.9 trillion soums in January-September 2014 compared to 2013, a representative of the Uzbek government circles told Trend Oct. 27.

The total loan portfolio of Uzbek banks has increased by 14.3 percent to 30.3 trillion soums since early 2014. The remainder on deposit accounts of the country's banks increased by one percent - to 26.8 trillion soums, the representative said.

As of October 1, the total equity capital of commercial banks amounted to 6.6 trillion soums, which is 1.5 percent more than in 2013.

It was previously reported that as of 2013, the total assets of Uzbek banks increased by 30.2 percent - to 43.9 trillion soums, the total loan portfolio - by 29.9 percent (to 26.5 trillion soums), the aggregate bank capital - 4 8 percent (up to 6.5 trillion soums).

There are 27 commercial banks, including three state, four - with foreign capital, 11 - joint stock and nine private banks in Uzbekistan.

The official exchange rate is 2379.75 soums/$1 Oct. 27.
