Trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan reaches $500 million and sometimes increases to $680 million, Saeed Shabestari, deputy governor general of Iran's East Azarbaijan province told Trend on Nov.12.

He added that East Azerbaijan province accounts for 20 percent of Azerbaijani-Iranian trade turnover.

He also touched upon Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Azerbaijan and said that this visit will open a new page in the political and economic relations of the two countries.

"We will try to benefit from this to ensure the development of relations between the two countries and for boosting trade relations between Iran and Russia," Shabestari said.

He said Azerbaijan can play a role of a corridor between Iran and Russia, adding that in this case, Azerbaijan's role is of great importance.

Shabestari said favorable conditions have been created in Iran's East Azarbaijan province for Azerbaijani investments and expressed interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The trade turnover of this province amounted to $1.2 billion in 2013. Around $1 billion of this amount fell to non-oil products, while $200 million fell to petrochemical products.
