Azerbaijan, Iran have great opportunities to increase bilateral trade turnover

The trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan is equal to around $500 million, however, the two countries have great opportunities to increase this figure tenfold, Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia told Trend on Nov.13.

He is on a visit to Baku, Azerbaijan in connection with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's visit to the country.

Rouhani ended his visit to Azerbaijan on Nov.13.

The minister said although the political and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are developing, the relations in the sphere of economy are not satisfactory.

"Azerbaijan and Iran have common historical and cultural roots," he said. "Both countries have economic potential to develop trade relations."

Tayyebnia said neighborhood of Azerbaijan and Iran, common borders, as well as the closeness of the peoples of the two countries create favorable conditions for the development of trade relations.

"Azerbaijani and Iranian presidents intend to solve the problems in the development of trade relations," he said, expressing hope that the trade relations between the two countries will reach the desired level.
