Mangistau district of Kazakhstan exceeded the plan for oil production, increasing the oil amount by almost 3 percent, mayor of the district Alik Aidarbayev said during a briefing at the central communications service

"We continue to improve the efficiency of existing fields," said Alik Aidarbayev. "The district showed an increase in oil production for the first time in several years. For the nine months of 2014, production totaled 13.8 million metric tons, and the plan was exceeded by 2.7 percent. Oil production was increased on the old fields of Zhetibay, Kalamkas, Ozen, Karajanbas."

He said that the growth was due to modernization and introduction of new technologies.

"The oil recovery factor has been increased according to the order of the president, the rig for polymer injection into the bed was launched on the Kalamkas field of the MangistauMunaiGaz JSC," said the mayor. "Increase in oil recovery factor to 44 percent will make it possible to increase the reserves of old fields up to 79 million metric tons, which is comparable with the opening of such a new field as Kumkol."
