Georgia's foreign trade turnover stood at $694 million in January 2015, which is 9 percent less than in the same period of 2014.
Export accounted for $156 million of this amount which is 30 percent less than in the same period of 2014, while the import accounted for $538 million, which is one percent less than in January 2014, Georgian National Statistics Office (GeoStat) told Trend.
Georgia's trade deficit was $382 million, or 55 percent of the total trade turnover in January 2015.
The country's foreign trade turnover with EU countries decreased by 5 percent and stood at $182 million in January 2015, according to GeoStat.
Export accounted for $61 million of this amount, which is 35 percent more than in the same period of 2014, while the import accounted for $120 million (5 percent less than in January 2014).
The share of EU countries in Georgia's foreign trade turnover during the reporting period, totaled 26 percent, including 39 percent in export and 22 percent in import, compared to 23, 20 and 23 percent, respectively in January 2014.
EU countries accounted for 15 percent of the trade deficit in January 2015, compared to 26 percent in January 2014.
Georgia's foreign trade turnover with CIS countries was $206 million, which is 22 percent less than in the same period of 2014, according to GeoStat.
Export accounted for $55 million of this amount, which is 51 percent less than in the same period of 2014, while the import accounted for $151 million (one percent less than in the same period of 2014).
The share of CIS countries in Georgia's total foreign trade turnover stood at 30 percent in January 2015, including 35 percent in export and 28 percent in import, compared to 35, 51 and 28 percent in January 2014.
CIS countries accounted for 25 percent of the trade deficit in January 2015, compared to 12 percent in January 2014.
