By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A delegation from the United Nations will travel to Iran to study environmental problems related to Karun River in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.
Gary Lewis, the UN resident coordinator in Iran, said that the delegation will visit the country in the Iranian fiscal month of Aban (October 23-November 21), Iran 's IRNA news agency reported Sept. 21.
In this line, a coordination meeting was held in the city of Ahvaz - the seat of Khuzestan - with ambassadors of Australia, Belgium, Sweden, and Norway in attendance.
"All of us are here because we are concerned about environmental problems Iran is facing, particularly we are concerned about the situation of wetlands which are highly valuable," Lewis said.
The project for protecting Iran's wetlands started in 2007, he said, adding that studies on Shadegan wetland have been completed and 10 other wetlands are being studied.
He added that climate situations are a serious challenge to environment so to decrease affects of the phenomenon the UN is determined to cooperate with Iran.
