Flight destinations from Turkey to reach 350

After commissioning the third airport in Istanbul, the number of destinations will increase to 350 from the current 282, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend.

The airport will be able to receive about 200 million passengers annually. The construction of the airport has been completed by more than 60 percent.

Currently, the first runway, which is 3.7 kilometers long and 60 meters wide, is being built. According to the project, the length of the second runway at the new airport will reach 4.1 kilometers, while width - 60 meters.

"Twenty eight bridges and a hydrometeorological tower are being also built on the territory of the airport,” the ministry said. “More than 31,000 people are involved in construction work. About 300 passenger and freight elevators will be installed at the airport.”

The first part of the third airport will be commissioned in Istanbul in late October 2018. "AİRPORT CİTY", which will include a network of shops, logistics and exhibition centers, will be also built at the airport. Limak-Kolin-Cengiz-MaPa-Kalyon consortium of companies won the tender for construction of the airport.

Previously, the ministry’s air transport department told Trend that the construction of the airport will cost 10 billion Turkish liras.

Turkey's Ziraat Bankasi allocated 1.54 billion euros, while Halkbank and Vakifbank - 1 billion euros, Denizbank - 500 million euros, Garanti and Finansbank - 300 million euros in October 2016.

The third airport is being built near the Lake Terkos in northern Istanbul.
