Agricultural production volume grows in Azerbaijan

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 5.78 billion manats in Azerbaijan in January-October 2017, which is by 4 percent more than in January-October 2016.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report, the crop production increased by 5.3 percent, while livestock production – 2.8 percent in the reporting period.

During the reporting period, harvesting of agricultural products in Azerbaijan was at the final stage.

So, almost 2.7 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were harvested from a 940,400-hectare-area (99.96 percent of the total sown area) in January-October 2017. The average yield was 28.6 centners per hectare.

According to the report, as of November 1, 885,900 tons of potatoes were harvested (a 0.7 percent growth for the year), 1.316 million tons of vegetables (a 9.2 percent growth), 437,400 tons of melons and gourds (a decrease of 5.8 percent), 720,000 tons of fruits and berries (an increase of 4.2 percent), 135,600 tons of grapes (an increase of 8.8 percent), 702.9 tons of green tea (a decrease of 28.6 percent), 154,300 tons of cotton (3.5 times growth), 275,700 tons of sugar beet (an increase of 2.4 times), 29,900 tons of sunflower (74.9 percent growth) and 4,500 tons of tobacco (an increase of 31.2 percent).

In January-October, 2017, 405,200 tons of meat in live weight, 1.68 million tons of milk, 1.45 billion pieces of eggs and 15,800 tons of wool were produced in the country.

Meat production increased by 3.4 percent, milk production by 0.6 percent, egg production - by 7.5 percent, while wool production decreased by 4 percent in January-October 2017 compared to January-October 2016.

Moreover, during the reporting period, the country also produced 245.2 tons of cocoons.
