By Mamed Dashdemirov – Trend:

Uzbekistan will abolish all individual customs, tax and other benefits granted to separate companies for the import of food products from February 1, 2018, and the Uzbek government is prohibited from making such decisions in the future, the country’s State Customs Committee told Trend.

The relevant decree has been signed by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Earlier, the draft document was put up for public discussion on the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the country.

According to the decree, the granting of preferential regime to individual importers allowed them to occupy a dominant position in the country’s food market, created exclusive business conditions for them and limited access to the market for other business entities.

All this led to serious systemic problems that create conditions for the development of unhealthy competition in the country, the monopolization of actors in the import of food products, an artificial deficit and unjustified overstatement of prices for goods and, as a result, extraction of excess profit.
