Unemployment rate down in Turkey

The unemployment rate decreased by 1.5 percent (by 360,000 people) and stood at 10.3 percent in Turkey in October 2017 as compared to the same month in 2016, says a message from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) posted on its website Jan. 17.

As of late October 2017, the total number of unemployed people reached 3.287 million in the country.

The unemployment rate in non-agricultural sectors decreased by 1.8 percent and stood at 12.3 percent in the period.

Unemployment rate among young people aged from 15 to 24 stood at 19.3 percent (decreasing by 1.9 percentage points), among the age group from 24 to 64 – by 10.5 percent (decreasing by 1.5 percentage points).

As of late October 2017, economically active population increased by 1.387 million people in Turkey and stood at 28.645 million.

Thus, the number of employed people increased by 1.4 percentage points up to 47.6 percent.
