Kazakhstan produces record amount of barley

The gross harvest of barley in Kazakhstan amounted to 3.3 million tons by the end of 2017, which is 2.3 percent more, compared to the previous year and a historical record for barley production in the country.

Barley yield in 2017 approached the level of 16 centners per hectare, according to the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of Economy of Kazakhstan.

Gross harvest of wheat in the mentioned period amounted to 14.8 million tons, which is 1.2 percent inferior to the same indicator of 2016. The average yield of Kazakh wheat in 2017 reached 12.4 c/ha, exceeding by 16 percent the average indicator for the last 5 years.

In 2017 prices on Kazakh barley increased by more than 11 percent, prices on wheat, in contrary, decreased by 3.4 percent.

In particular, over 2017 in Kazakhstan, prices on corn increased by 13.1 percent, on barley - by 11.7 percent, on rye - by 10.4 percent, on oats - by 5.8 percent, and on rice - by 2.9 percent.

Kazakhstan totally produced 20.6 million tons of grain and leguminous crops in 2017 at a yield of 13.4 c/ha, which is almost the same result as in 2016.
