As of late January 2018, the number of employees in the banking sector of Azerbaijan stood at 16,207, the country’s Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FIMSA) said March 5.
According to FIMSA, the number of employees in the banking sector rose by 0.2 percent during the month. Thus, as of late December 2017, there were 16,171 employees in the Azerbaijani banking sector, and as of late January 2017 – about 16,928 employees.
Thirty banks, including two state-owned ones, operate in the country. Fifteen Azerbaijani banks have foreign capital, and the share of foreign shareholders exceeds 50 percent of the authorized capital in eight of them.
Meanwhile, two branches of foreign banks (Bank Melli Iran and National Bank of Pakistan) operate in Azerbaijan.
In late January 2018, 511 branches and 142 departments of banks operated in the country.
