Uzbekistan and Georgia held the eighth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation in Tbilisi, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on May 15.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Trade Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojayev and First Vice Premier of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dmitry Kumsishvili.

Representatives of the two countries discussed prospects for increasing railway and road freight turnover both between the two countries and within the framework of existing transit routes.

The parties also considered development of cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, energy, transport and logistics, communications, information technologies and other spheres. Representatives of the two countries also discussed possible launch of direct flights between Georgia and Uzbekistan.

It was noted that direct flights will positively influence cooperation in the sphere of tourism and promote development of business relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia.

A Georgian-Uzbek business forum will also be held during the visit of the Uzbek delegation to Georgia.
