Baku, Azerbaijan, May 16
By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:
Further discussions on choosing the host city for holding the EXPO 2025 exhibition will be held on June 12, Trend learned from the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE).
Azerbaijan has been shortlisted for the next stage of assessing the candidacy for the exhibition. Russia’s Yekaterinburg and Japan’s Osaka are also bidding to organize the EXPO 2025.
“In March and April 2018, the BIE carried out Enquiry Missions to the three candidate countries for World Expo 2025: Japan, Russia and Azerbaijan. The findings of these three Enquiry Missions were discussed at the Executive Committee of the BIE, held on 4 May. Based on these findings, the Executive Committee has made recommendations on whether each candidate should be considered for election,” said the BIE.
A summary of the findings of the Enquiry Missions and the Executive Committee’s recommendations will be presented to delegates of the 170 Member States of the BIE at the 163rd General Assembly on 12 June, according to the Bureau.
“Member States will then be asked to approve, or not, the recommendations of the Executive Committee. Candidates that are considered for election will then have the opportunity, on 13 June, to present their Expo projects to delegates,” said BIE.
The election of the host country for World Expo 2025 will take place at the following General Assembly of the BIE, scheduled for November 2018, according to the Bureau.
Azerbaijan, which has been actively participating in six Expo exhibitions held by the International Exhibitions Bureau for 18 years and has won three awards for the high quality of the pavilions, demonstrates a strong commitment to Expo movement.
If Baku is chosen, the World Expo 2025 will be held for six months from May 10 to November 10, 2025. It will be the first World exhibition of the International Exhibitions Bureau organized in the South Caucasus region.
