Azerbaijan’s wine producer Sharg Ulduzu LLC intends to expand the export of cognac products to China, head of the company Asgar Alirzayev told Trend Aug. 28.

“Azerbaijani wine products are in great demand in China's consumer market,” he said. “Dry red wines are in great demand.”

"Our Shanghai partners have recently proposed us to expand the supply of Azerbaijani cognac products,” he said. “So, we plan to increase exports of our products to this country. Previously, small volumes of this type of alcoholic products were supplied to China as wines were in demand. But we will try to meet the demand of our Chinese partners. I expect that Azerbaijan’s "Agdam" cognac will be available in the Chinese consumer market. Presently, it is actively promoted in the markets of Russia, Belarus and the Central Asian countries."

"Raw materials are processed for 7 tons of brandy alcohol per day in the workshop by using Germany’s equipment, from which about 700 liters of cognac are obtained," Alyrzayev said.

In foreign economic activity China is the fourth partner of Azerbaijan in terms of trade turnover.

In 2017 Azerbaijan exported wine products worth $6 million. Azerbaijani wines worth $1 million were supplied to China.

The export of Azerbaijani wine products for the first half of 2018 exceeded $4 million, which is 80 percent more than in the same period of 2017.

Azerbaijan’s wines are mainly supplied to Russia (85 percent), China (7 percent), European countries, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.

According to the State Program for the Development of Winemaking for 2018-2025, approved by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the country plans to increase wine exports fivefold by 2025.

Sharg Ulduzu LLC was established in 2002.
