Vice-President of the China Construction Engineering Design Group Corporation Ltd. Song Xiaolong has arrived in Samarkand to personally inspect and explore all the details of development of a general plan for the city and the Samarkand City tourism area, Podrobno.uz reported.
A contract between the Chinese company and the National Bank of Uzbekistan was signed in August this year. In addition, the bank signed in July a memorandum of understanding on construction of the Samarkand City with the Chinese Silk Road Foundation.
Samarkand City is designed to hold the events of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). An SCO meeting will be held in Samarkand in 2022.
Hotels, cottages, entertainment and shopping facilities will be located in the modern tourism zone. It is planned to build there an amphitheater, to establish bowling clubs, karaoke bars, catering establishments and souvenir shops. Total area of the tourism zone will be 14 hectares.
The project is planned to be completed by the end of 2019.
