New railway to be built in Turkey's south

A new railway will be laid in Turkey's south, between the country's Diyarbakir and Mardin provinces, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend on Sept. 27.

The ministry noted that a tender was announced for the new railway's construction and six companies participated it.

The winner of the tender was a consortium with the participation of Ederay Insaat Taah. San. ve Tic. A.S. and Imaj Altyapi Ust Yapi San. ve Tic. A.S.

"The cost of the project is 380.6 million Turkish liras," the ministry said.

The ministry also mentioned that the length of the new railway is 53.8 kilometers and the consortium will have to build it within 1,080 days.

Turkey’s first railway was built in Izmir in 1860. Its length was 357 kilometers.
