The British-Iranian Chamber of Commerce is doing its best for the welfare of the people, although Iran's trade relationship with Great Britain is not on the high level, an official told Trend.

"Although the US sanctions have been applied unilaterally by the United States, some countries will follow the sanctions as they fear of the punitive secondary sanctions. But these sanctions will not bring the people of Iran to their knees, the Chairman of British-Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Alaeddin Mir-Mohammad-Sadeghi said.

"There may also be some criticism of the government, but the Iranian people will surely be united against the foreigners, and will be able to neutralize the conspiracy of the foreigners. It’s a part of Iran's culture of resistance," he said.

“In this situation, the government must do its utmost effort in order to supply the fundamental needs of the people. Although it is possible that people will be in short supply for a few months, but I think they will stand up against these shortcomings,“ said Sadeghi.

Referring to the role of the chamber during the sanctions, he said that the chamber would do its best to have contacts with its counterparts.

"I believe, except for sensitive cases, there is no problem in the exchanges between Iran and the United Kingdom," he said.

“There will be appropriate measures to ensure the well-being of the people, as the main purpose of the sanctions, contrary to the claims, is to cripple ordinary people,” he said. "Of course, our business relationship with the UK is not so high, and it just includes commodities like dried fruits.”
