The lack of warehouses for storing fruits and vegetables in Azerbaijan negatively affects their exports, Chairman of Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan Bashir Guliyev told Trend.

He said persimmon is a perishable fruit, so after harvesting, it must be placed in special storage facilities.

“A lot of persimmon, as a rule, remains on the trees, especially in the farms of entrepreneurs who don’t have the basic conditions for storing their products,” said Guliyev.

He noted that the creation of warehouses is in the interests of not only the businessmen themselves, but also the state.

“Warehouses will allow collecting large volumes of fruits and keeping them in good condition, which ultimately will have a positive impact on exports,” said Guliyev.

He noted that the creation of warehouses is important for storage of other types of fruits and vegetables intended for sale in domestic and foreign markets.

In Azerbaijan, persimmon is mainly grown in Goychay, Balaken, Agjabadi and Ganja.

Until the end of this year, it is planned to produce 200,000 tons of persimmon in Azerbaijan.

The export of this product last year brought Azerbaijan a significant income of $100 million.
