Iran's Ilam province almost doubles its honey production

In the current Iranian year (started March 21) 960 tons of honey have been collected in Iran's Ilam province, the deputy director for the improvement of animal hunbandry products at Ilam Agriculture Department, Mojtaba Shirkhani said in an interview with IRNA.

He noted that the province's total honey production amounted to 480 billion Iranian rials (roughly $1.14 billion).

Shirkhani added that there are 103,610 modern honeycombs in the province and Ilam's beekeeping industry provides 1335 people with jobs.

Along with honey, the province also produces royal jelly, wax, propolis, honeybee venom, he added.

Shirkhani stressed that Ilam's honey production has increased by 45 percent compared to the previous Iranian year.
